How to Add a New Dataset

Datasets can be created from different elements in Labguru, collecting the data into one place

A dataset, in Labguru, is a set of experimental results or any set of numerical/textual data in a table format.

Data files in the form of Excel or text that are added to experiment pages, plates, and form elements can be turned into datasets. Labguru can identify existing inventory items and create a new entry in that item's page with the relevant data from the file.

One important rule.  Datasets must have headers. When attaching a raw data file you want to save as a dataset, make sure you arrange the file so the first row of the file is the header of each column.

Datasets can be filtered and sorted to improve data clarity, allow better decision-making, and enhance usability by allowing you to control how the data is displayed.

Datasets can be created from:

1. From files uploaded to Experiment pages:

You can turn any data files (Excel, .csv or .txt files) into a dataset after you attach it to your experiment. It will not affect the attachment, but will create a new dataset in the account. Once the creation of the dataset is completed you will get an email notification. If you want to change the name of the dataset or add description you can click on 'Edit' in the dataset page.

2. From a form element:

Labguru offers a Form element that can be added to protocols. When a protocol with a form element is used to create an experiment, the performer of the experiment can enter data into the form fields.

When creating a form element in a protocol, click on the 'Link with dataset' at the upper right corner in the form to link with a dataset:

Select the type of dataset. Provide a name for the new dataset and click 'Save':

3. From the 'Datasets' Index page:

Go to 'Knowledge' module and choose 'Datasets' from the drop down menu:

Click on 'Add new dataset':

Import you dataset file, follow the instructions to ensure a successful upload:

4. From the Plate show page:

Go to 'Plates' under the 'Storage' menu,

or click on the name of the plate in the experiment page.

This will take you to the plate show page, click on 'Add new Dataset' and import the dataset.
