In today’s fast-paced environment, efficiency is essential across all industries, from bustling laboratories to high-volume manufacturing floors. Every step in your workflow must be easily accessible and seamlessly integrated to prevent disruptions. Labhandy integrates effortlessly with Brady printers, enabling you to map information and print labels of various shapes, colors, and sizes directly within the Labhandy platform. This integration saves you valuable time, minimizes errors, and ensures the use of durable, reliable label materials and ink that withstand harsh storage conditions and the test of time

Supported Printers with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth for Labhandy version 2.2.1 and up

  • Brady M511

  • Brady M611

For Wi-Fi discovery of printers, the location must be enabled on your phone or tablet.

Designing a Compatible Template within Brady Workstation

Using Brady Workstation, you can design templates for printing, with input fields populated with data from your Labguru account. Labhandy by Labguru allows you to map these fields to the desired stocks' information and print labels on-the-go

Templates require some nuances for a seamless transition and use within Labhandy

  • Graphics Field: Supported for static(locked) input only.

  • Date and Time Field: To print date and time dynamically, use a placeholder text field and match it to an attribute such as expiry date, creation date, etc. (Using Brady’s workstation Date and Time field is not supported.

  • Barcode Field: Set as placeholders and select the type of symbology used (e.g., linear barcode, Data Matrix, QR). In Labhandy, match the field during mapping to the data that the barcode should represent.

Brady’s workstation - Custom Designer Lite offers only Linear barcode type as part of template design.

  • Text Field: Must be set as placeholders to show dynamic data relevant to the selected stock. Make sure characters all fit in the text field by using wrap text.

  • Shapes and Lines - are not supported and will not show in Labhandy

In general when designing a template that will be imported into Labhandy, you should assign descriptive names to the objects you insert within the template. This will help you accurately map your fields.

Importing Templates (BWT format) to Labhandy

Available templates will be kept within Labhandy for the entire account.

  1. Design Your Template in Brady Workstation:

    • Select printer types and label parts, then choose a blank template file type.

    • Insert field types such as text, image, barcode, etc., and define them as either static (locked) or placeholder (variable) fields.

  2. Template fields naming conventions:

    • To better map these fields later within Labhandy, assign descriptive field names to suggest the type of values that should be assigned from the available information in your account.

    • Adjust the positioning of inserted fields, text size, and enable auto-fit to size.

  3. Save and Export:

    • Save or export the template as a BWT file.

    • Save the file in your Google Drive or any other source for easy access.

  4. Import into Labhandy:

    • Import the template into Labhandy by pressing the plus button and selecting Import a BWT file

Mapping Fields in Labhandy

  • Map the fields within the template to the desired available values, save and use. Preferences will be saved, and remapping is always available if needed.

    • The barcode fields should correspond to the information fields that the barcode represents, such as the stock ID, unique string, etc.

    • Custom fields created within Labguru will also be available for use during the mapping process of fields templates

Troubleshooting Guide

Template Issues

    • Text on Arc

    • Text Art

    • Image Placeholders

    • Color

    • Date/Time Text Objects

  • Inaccurate Label Dimensions: Ensure dimensions match the printer and supply size.

  • Placeholder Objects: Ensure the template contains placeholders for dynamic data input.

  • Font Issues: Ensure the fonts used in the template are installed on the device.

  • Placeholder Data: Ensure all placeholders in the template are returned correctly.

  • Barcode field invalid input: a barcode field matched to a stock field that contains an invalid input (e.g. lowercase letters for Barcode 128)

    • iOS - Bracode 128 this type can't hold lower case letters, and in ios, trying to do so results in a crash.

    • Android the field stays empty

      • 128A (Code Set A) – ASCII characters 00 to 95 (0–9, A–Z and control codes), special characters, and FNC 1–4

      • 128B (Code Set B) – ASCII characters 32 to 127 (0–9, A–Z, a–z), special characters, and FNC 1–4

      • 128C (Code Set C) – 00–99 (encodes two digits with a single code point) and FNC1

Non-Template Issues:

Consult Printer Manual:

  • Refer to the printer's user manual for specific troubleshooting steps and maintenance guidelines

Printer Connectivity

Ensuring your Labhandy app can connect to the printer is essential for seamless operation. If you encounter connectivity issues, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

Common Connectivity Problems

  1. Check Printer Status:

    • Ensure the printer is turned on and properly connected to your network or device.

    • Verify that the printer is not low on battery, as low battery levels can prevent successful connections.

  2. Multiple Users:

    • If multiple users are trying to connect to the same printer simultaneously, it may cause connectivity conflicts. Make sure only one user is attempting to connect at a time.

  3. Network Issues:

    • Confirm that your network is functioning correctly. A stable internet connection is crucial for the app to communicate with the printer.

Hardware Issues:

Printer Error Logs

  • Review the printer's error logs to identify any hardware-related problems. Common issues can include paper jams, mechanical failures, or firmware errors.

Supply Levels

  • Check Supplies:

    • Ensure that the printer has enough ink or toner. Running out of ink or toner will prevent the printer from functioning.

    • Verify that there is sufficient paper or other printing supplies loaded in the printer.

  • Cartridge Issues:

    • Ensure that the printer cartridge is properly installed and not empty. Replace the cartridge if necessary.
